Quick questions on The heart and blood vessels explained: O-Level Biology

5short Q&A pairs drawn directly from our worked dot-point answer. For full context and worked exam questions, read the parent dot-point page.

What is structure of the heart?
Show answer
The heart is a muscular pump with four chambers: two upper atria and two lower ventricles. The right side and left side are separated by a wall (septum) so oxygenated and deoxygenated blood do not mix.
What are the three blood vessels?
Show answer
Arteries carry blood away from the heart. They have thick, muscular and elastic walls to withstand the high pressure of blood pumped from the heart and a narrow lumen. (The elastic recoil keeps the blood moving.)
What is q1?
Show answer
Name the four chambers of the heart. [2 marks]
What is q2?
Show answer
Explain why the wall of the left ventricle is thicker than that of the right ventricle. [2 marks]
What is q3?
Show answer
State one structural feature of a capillary and its function. [2 marks]
